the role of the military
The Mughal dynasty reigned from 1526 to 1857. In the late 15th century, Akbar the Great formed the Mughal army to serve and protect the Mughal Empire. The Mughal style of warfare changed the way wars were fought in the Indian subcontinent.
The Mughal army consisted of five branches of defense: infantry, cavalry, fire-arms, elephants and war boats. The infantry division was the largest in size. However, the most important branch was the cavalry. In the beginning, mobility of the cavalry defined the strength of the Mughal army. Victories of the military lead to the expansion of the Mughal Empire. |
